The "Stargate" franchise originated with a 1994 feature film, but since then has expanded into one of the powerhouses of sci-fi fandom. With two television series, multiple novelizations, and even a couple of videogames thrown into the mix, it's no wonder that we're due for a massively multiplayer game set in the rich "Stargate" setting. Developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is hard at work on Stargate Worlds, its flagship massively multiplayer game, and at Comic-Con International 2008 we had a chance to not just see it in action, but to also take it for a spin.
It would be difficult to succinctly encapsulate the property's extensive history and chronology without incurring the wrath of countless die-hard "Stargate" fans, but we'll try anyways. The setting is based around the efforts of humanity to fight off hostile alien races encountered after the discovery of ring-shaped teleportation devices known as Stargates. These devices lead to other worlds and societies, including the alien race that helped forge ancient Egyptian civilization. Stargate Worlds takes place after season eight, the last season featuring the team led by Richard Dean Anderson's Jack O'Neill. [Read More at GameSpy]
