I regain consciousness laying face down on the ground my arms crossed over my head. Above the ringing in my ears I hear the sound of a Chappa'ai closing behind me. Relaxing for a microsecond I shake my head to try to regain focus. As my surroundings become a little clearer the world starts to take shape. Shifting the overheating zat to my right hand I rake my hair back from my face and roll to my side and try to push upright. No sound of shooting, no smell of a burning structure that I vaguely remember being in moments - hours - or was it days ago. At least I got away mostly intact. Shaking my head again does not reveal the recent past to me, just a slight feeling of relief to be not where I was. Sitting partly upright, blinking my eyes and holding my head still I again try to focus on the nearby, spitting out dirt and maybe a chip of tooth. Not much here. Not exactly ruins more like a new construction that is growing up around the Chappa'ai. Continual recycling of materials found in and around temples is one of the galactic constants. The zat is too hot to place in holster inside my tunic. I lay the weapon on my lap and lean back on my hands. Sniffing the air I do not detect anyone or anything I recognize.
