Volsung
This is going to be my journal for the Asgard I am planning to roll at launch. I will need a lot of help to make sure I stay in the Asgard mind frame. The character is going to be somewhat of a rebel in the light that he feels that the Asgard need to take a more active role in the galactic community and should be seeking aid form their allies in regards to their negative population growth. He is a bit of a hot head, again by Asgard standards, and has been relegated to observing a cluster of backwater worlds for his impertinence. While most would see this as a slap in the fran, Volsung sees it as an opportunity to seek out the primitive wisdom of his charges as well as spend a great deal of time running experiments on his Asgard ship, Gyllir. This is by no means an Asgard battleship, but more of a frigate or picket ship. Let us join Volsung on one of the planets he has been given charge of.

The days here are longer than I am accustomed to. But the beings are most genial. They seem to be of the same genetic species as the ancestors and genetic testing has shown some that are more advanced than others in their evolutionary process. These ones may become useful in discerning a cure to our society’s plight.
A most unusual creature accompanied one of the pilgrims today. A quadruped with short course fur. The youngling that was its master was so very concerned with its well being. He brought it to me to pray for it's continued health. A scan showed no ailment in the creature save a minor fracture in one leg. The youth was so upset over this that he offered up anything that he had to ensure the creature good health. I must admit that this is the sort of fanatic devotion that draws me to protect these people. Our kind has lost all sense of love and dedication to another living being outside of duty. This young boy, he could not have reached his seventh Birth Cycle, loved this creature so much that he would have sacrificed all for it.
I feel the stirring in my own blood. This sense of companionship to these people and devotion to them as well. The elders see this as a weakness and something to be driven out of me. But I believe that recapturing this feeling, these emotions are the only way to achieve the necessary drive to reclaim our, dare I write it, humanity. We have all seen Heimdall’s research, we know that these people are what we evolved from. Yet none of us is willing to say it out loud; to accept that we need their assistance to study them and to possibly turn back the hands of evolution and reclaim our society.
For my part I will continue to study these people and the others under my charge and see if I can unlock the key to turning our people back into reproductive beings. If we can accomplish that we can again have the great breadth of genetic material that will let us sustain the Asgard people for another hundred generations.

I have moved to the third planet in my stewardship and have come to realize that the people of this world are advancing much faster than the others. While the other worlds are all still using tools of simple flawed metals and using open flames for light and heat, the people of this world have learned to harden the baser resources in removing the impurities and have learned to harness the wind and river to generate electrical currents. These are the ones, I feel, that will hold the key.
In my recent observations the society has not fallen victim to the doubts in beliefs that normaly accompanies such great strides in technology and evolution. They still worship at the shrines and give thanks to their gods. These ones must be watched and eventually I will need to extract samples to study their genetic makeup further.

A minor Goa'uld attmepted to take one of the worldsunder my protection today. The foolish creature was not even a system lord. He approached the fourth planet under my protection in a single Ha'Tak. He had made landfall before I was aware of his presence.
By the time I brought my ship in orbit above the Ha'Tak he had his hand full of Jaffa, I think I counted twenty five total, on the march towards the settlement nearest the Stargate. I was pleased to observe the leader of the settlement approach them. The sides exchanged short conversation before the Jaffa opened fire. The settlements leader was fast enough to avoid death but was hit squarely in the shoulder as he retreated to cover. The Jaffa advanced on the settlement and began to lay waste to the houses when the citizens counter attacked. With crossbows and axes they bit into the Jaffa ranks driving them back.
The Goa'uld, seeing his men falling retreated to the Ha'Tak and began to ascend towards the atmosphere. Now I would have let him run away, his humilation being enough, but he then turned the Ha'Tak's guns on the settlement. Before he could launch one round I had dispatched him. The people of the planet sent their thanks at the alters and we all went on with our lives. Now back to my research.
