thank you for the explainations. I guess the experiences I have with mmorpgs are not quite like the pay 15 per month and get maxed out skills quickly and then get bored and move on. I hope SGW has more depth than that.
Thats the reason for what people call "end game" content. Once you max your character skills you do the instances that require a max character with other people, you do pve raiding for items, you get badges, you max your crafting skills to make things for other players. Content is depth to a game. Having no depth would be just logging in and having nothing to do except to chat with others and show them how nice your toon looks.

Since there are essentially unlimited numbers of gates that that can exist I don't see why there can't be an essentially unlimited set of skills and skill levels to be attained. On the corporate side of things for MGM and CME I would think they would not want the game to be as sticky (addictive) as possible to cause people to want to stay for as long as the game can evolve. And if the players on both sides do actually control how the game is structured power wise then there are endless possibilities of making alliances and taking over different parts of the "universe".
I doubt there would ever be a guild strong or large enough to take control of the whole thing. Unless they had a brilliant leader and she was ruthless enough to want absolute control. Sorry sorta slipped into the dark side there a sec.
I take you you mean player verse player combat with this? Thats a form of end game content that most MMO's have. I don't think in this game you can take over sections/sectors/planets, atleast not at launch. But they haven't really said much about the pvp aspect of the game yet. I don't know what you mean about unlimited skills and skill levels though. Do you mean for your character? You'd just keep on leveling it forever?

But anyways the idea is to have fun and meet new people right? :)
Definitely, the social part of MMO's is very important but having things to do that are a challenge with the people you met while socializing is just as important. Don't think of it as single player end game content like a boss that you kill and then see the credits roll, its multiplayer things you can do over and over with new people you meet thats fun and keeps your interest in the game. End Game content might not be a good word for it and I think thats whats throwing you off. It's just things you can do to have fun with people, it isn't a bad thing.
