In an interview with computerandvideogames.com they had this to say "We have abandoned the old tank/healer/nuker paradigm in favour of a more balanced approach to gameplay." So I'd guess that that means everyone can heal themselves in some capacity where players can choose to specialize in it and focus more on healing teammates if they choose to go down that road, rather than just picking "healing class."

I think some might have healing trees or regeneration trees to specialize in but I really don't think every class is going to have healing specialization. But then again thats just a guess from reading the achetype descriptions. Like I've said I hope they don't. Star wars galaxies is the game that has everyone healing themselves, some better than others, and it just isn't exciting or fun. I'd much rather have more skills to reduce damage/avoid damage or use crafting items to heal/bandage myself than just some generic self "heal" skill. If healing is added in every classes trees it just takes up room that could have been used for more interesting aspects for each archetype.

A medic class is definitely a good idea. Though, SGW is trying to avoid the stereotypical Warrior-Caster-Healer trio of every other MMO. It is likely that healing will be a part of every character, but for a class specializing in healing, it be off the charts. As for Jaffa and Goa'uld, I think that they would have the best solo healing abilities, because of that, no supporting healer class.
