Missing Class/Archetype = Doctor 4 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 4
Why not a doctor class? In stargate SG-1 I realize it didn't come into play nearly as much as in atlantis. In SG-1 dr. fraiser wasn't a main character and just stayed in the SGC. But in atlantis you had Dr. Beckett going on a lot of missions, and now Dr. Keller going on her fair share. In atlantis the doctor character comes into play and saves the day on a number of occasions. So it seems to me that having a class in stargate worlds dedicated to healing and not being a afterthought would be a fun class to play. I understand soldier is supposed to get a bit of healing sounds more of a job of a doctor/medic than soldier. A doctor class with toxin type attacks, low damage, with a lot of healing type abilities. Such as possibly a medic pack drop, DoT healing, and regular healing. I like their idea with healing that its more personal, you go from cover to cover where your allies are, to heal them by standing next to them instead of healing from a distance. I believe that adds some fun to a doctor class that they would have to run through fire from cover to cover to heal or revive. Only thing I can really think of why they would leave a healing class out is the fact they don't really want a class to be "needed" in a group to accomplish tasks. Which I can understand, was never fun playing a MMO where your left out of a group because they rather have a healer than you. But even so I think it would fit the shows and more importantly be a fun class to play with the cover dynamic. What does anyone else think?

maybe archeologist, or any kind of scientist type on both side will have more healing abilities. I mean, yeah, soldiers and every race/job will get some kind of healing ability, so that allows ppl to play and not go "LFG" for hours caus you cannot find a healer. But actualy, i think there will be some more powerful jobs on the healing side, healing might just not be their "main" skill. Whenever you'll have to fight special mobs for mission or w/e event your on, you will need support healing IMO. Maybe not for the regular "party" mode, but at least for special events, that would make more sens. IDK, everybody healing themselves sounds kinda wierd to me.

I agree that a healing class is always needed in the MMO-verse and that the field doctor's would fit into the story arc. But also in sticking with the story arc, you won't be performing surgery in the field. I feel that the soldier class will likely have First-Aid as part of their skill tree and that will likely be all there is for Launch. BUT...hold on a sec, there's a but? There's always a but, I would not be surprised to see Doctors and Field Medics come into play in later releases. If I am reading between the lines correctly we should be seeing a lot of new content over the first 6 months of release and I would be very happy to see the outpost structure they alluded to in a couple of interviews (may have been same interview on different sites come to think of it) include a medic station where players can get buffs and heal rez sickness and things of that nature.

Agreed, I hope everybody isn't able to heal themselves. Thats one of worst things about the new SW:G version of the game. Every single class doesn't need healing just to be able to do things. It seems like as of now scientist is the main healer and soldier has limited healing, not sure if scientists would make sense as a healer though or soldier as a secondary healer for that matter. Every race isn't going to have a healing ability from what I read which I'm glad of.

Copy and pasted from a site:

---Scientist: They can also specialize in healing and resurrection technology.
Soldier: Command skills will allow the player limited use of healing technologies and skills to increase team performance.-----

Point of the post was basically to say that it would make more sense to have a specific doctor class that would run from cover to cover for personal healing, leave out healing for other professions but let crafters have a consumable that would sell well like bandages (on a reuse timer) for your personal healing without needing a doctor. I didn't mean have doctor class skills everyone could have. Have it as the 8th achetype. Just was thinking it really fit into the show and would add another archetype choice different from the other 7.

I don’t think they’ll be using the standard WOW or EQ template here, and this is just a guess, but they may handle that with med. packs and stems. Then again maybe a hand held ribbon device similar to the ribbon device of the Goa’uld, or the Tok’ra. Hav9ing that ability was available to Carter after the blinding in one of the episodes as I recall. It would make for a great mission to acquire the ability…

My take on SGW healing is that anyone "CAN" heal but how well might be a factor and when say you got shot and your down maybe the game will notice this and say well he just lost both arms so cant really inject himself with morphine. (example) hehe. but maybe the game will bealbe to tell to a degree teh severity of ones injuries and judge that persons healing based on that. say that person does some how inject themself with "crack" but since there so hurt it only gives them enough ability to walk real slow, where as say a healthy unhurt friend does the injection the injured party is like new again.

again the skill at which CME shows us how vague there answers while making us all go OOOH AHHHH never stops amazing me

Agree with all above posters. Do not need class flashing heals.... but a class than can help sustain wounds...from further damage will work...SGW is the real world right? spamming heals i hope that is not case... but a doc would be good after battles not during... we will see nice ideas all....

Ive just listened to the new podcast from the SGW designers and they have covered the medic status.. Apparently they are pulling medics into the danger, making them have to be in close proximity to another character to be able to heal them, instead of the long distance healing from cover which occurs in other fantasy mmmorpgs....
I dont think their will be a specific class of healer/doctor, however i think the soldiers and jaffa may have healing as one of their trees... or somevariations... maybe medical capabilities can be achieved through some piece of alien tech... The possibilities are endless..

Yeah, its more "personal" healing if you will. To heal members you will have to run across enemy fire, from cover to cover, where your allies are firing from to give them a close proximity heal. I like the sound of it, instead of standing back and just firing off long distance heals. It will be more like a medic in battlefield 2 than a traditional MMO. As I copied and pasted earlier in the post, from a interview I found, it looks like scientist will be the true healer. They will have a lot of healing from their expertise trees and will be able to rez. Jaffa it seems will have some regeneration capabilities but thats about it.
