I think it's all going to depend on how many subscribers/beta testers they are going to get outside the U.S. If its not that high of a number, i can see why they would decide to stay in the states.
the problem with that is that there are likely to be way more americans subscribing to it than outsiders anyway, so chances are we people down in humble australia are going to get major laggage aren't we?
forgive me if i'm wrong.. i'm a little uneducated in these things as of yet.
I understand where your concern is coming from. Your right more than likely their will be a lot more americans playing than any other, but if theirs a decent population in asia, europe, austrailia i'm sure they will add servers there too. But I wouldn't say you'd get any lag as long as you have a fast connection. Servers have come a long way from the days of star wars galaxies, where if your only 5 hours drive from the server you'd get 150 ping. But here is the location of the audio podcast where they mention server locations and what they will probably do at launch and maybe add servers on other continents later on. If you want to check it out.
http://community.stargateworlds.com/download/10/600/ its at the 3:44 mark of time on the podcast. If you want austrailia to have their own server my only advice is, get as many of your fellow austrailians playing the game as possible
