They have not yet announced a payment model but you can expect it to be similar to MMORPGs like WoW, LotrO and AoC.

well that's the thing: if you want a good game with great quality and so forth, the people making it have to get paid. The tech they use costs money, time costs money, expertise costs money...
But yes, you will have to pay for this game. How much? Per the CME guy at Comic Con "it will be comparable with other MMO's out there."
Personally... if it is a quality game that keeps improving, I dont' mind shelling out money. But if the game content stinks, the Devs ignore the players, the Tech support is SOE-tastic, bugs don't get fixed, the game is in perpetual Beta, and there is basically no improvement or it looks like the Devs dont' give a damn anymore... then I get kinda sore about giving them my hard-earned moolah.
Basically, right now until games can be developed and whipped out from templates and don't require years to develop and lots of tech hours and such to make... you get what you pay for in MMO's. You want free? Try out the free MMO's from Asia. They look pretty.. but the translations are 'meh' and the gameplay itself is often 'meh' too.
*grins*
I mean.. I'd love a free, awesome MMORPG to play too... but just not optimistic of ever finding one. Awesome rarely equals Free. In anything. LOL

How said Kyatai, if do you want to game was superior and somebody cared about her (maintenance servers, fixed bugs) so have to expect, that the behind it'll be somebody want to pay for it. Personally I think, that the 12.99euro/month (WoW) is able to allow almost every, even and that which hasn't possibility alone earn.

i personly think they should make the payment models like such games as last chaos, albatoss 18 and a few others that are free to play but special items cost money. Or take a do like runescape does and have a free area and a memebers area
i personly dont play games that you have to have a monthy fee, but i do pay money for games like last chaos where i get to choose how much i wish to pay. and thats been close to a year worth of WoW fees in a single month a few months in a row
i belive this system makes the gaming company way more money then if they just charged flat monthy fees, as that makes gamers like me shy away from games like WoW and the like just cus of the monthy fee
i personly dont like the though of being locked in to a monthy fee, and like the fact that i get to choose just how much or little i want to spend on a game at any given time
thats just my two cents about it anyway

If I enjoy the MMO enough to pay a monthly fee it usually saves me a lot of money. You pay a monthly fee for new content/items/abilities/ect. So it keeps the game from getting stale like single player games (or even regular multiplayer that some game tack on) get after a certain amount of time. When I'm deep into a MMO and not playing anything else it saves me money from having to buy a new $60 dollar single player game every week or couple weeks after I beat them. For me in the long run it saves me hundreds of dollars. No one likes having extra fees per month, but with how Stargate Worlds looks to be turning out I'll willingly pay the 50 cents a day. Better than the old arcades I grew up in.
