Well as I see it each world is a instance of its own when your really think about it. So having planets specifically set as housing planets, and others as questing planets would relieve that lag I should think. And it would keep it "open world" as you went to those planets. By controlled instances do you mean each planet having a section of the planet with a instance gate where all player housing resides? So you could have a house on any planet you like without cluttering it up? Sounds like a decent idea to me, not as good as open world housing but has its merits, each planet could have housing without lag that way. If I took what you meant by "controlled instances" wrong let me know. Any idea that lets housing be a viable option thats fun without lag is two thumbs up for me.
