I just saw Stephen King's movie "The Mist" and I must say it took me for a fun ride…then dropped me off a cliff. The opening started out tame enough and hooked me with better acting than I expected. Plus having been through some crazy weather myself, I connected with seeing the mist and trees falling during a storm. Besides the stellar main character acting, the storyline & creatures reminded me of a Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 exploration that in a gamers mind filled in the plausibility gaps for me. And as a gamer, I enjoyed the suspense and gamer level cgi…but as a father of 2 young kids, the emotional connection ran deeper than any game has evoked. The social commentaries were obvious but didn’t seem too preachy…and after the movie it will make you think…or just piss you off. Not the movie of the year and not one I would care to see again…but the only movie I can remember, that I actually cried like a baby. So with that said…it was better than I thought it would be, and pulled me in directions I didn't expect.
