Why is crafting important to you? I am not going that route.. might make an alt later on... but whats in you to be the crafter? There is a lot of talk about this.... I for one in RL can't sell a thing.... but my wife can sell ice to an eskimo and make him/her feel good about it at the same time... So I am the one buying your crafted items... What is the appeal to make crafting items...? Yes, I know money and all that... like to see some views on this...

To me personally, crafting just adds a extra dimension to the game thats beyond killing everything in sight. It's another layer of depth that involves player interaction that makes MMO's the enjoyable experience they are. Also I find it rewarding to help your guild and new players to a game get some good equipment. And the feeling of accomplishment when you create a very good piece of equipment from different materials or reverse-engineering things you acquired. The economy that arises based off of crafting makes the game more real world and immersive as well. Seems like this game isn't going to have dedicated crafter classes, but crafters being a subclass like WoW and EQ2, which has advantages and disadvantages based on how you look at it. The MMO's that have no crafting at all such as CoH at the time I quit, and is based solely on looting just seems dim and hollow to me. When you loot your 120th P-90 you'll be happy theirs crafters to do something with them thats constructive or more like deconstructive when you talk about reverse-engineering.

I find crafting fun and I like making stuff for friends and myself. I like to craft mostly when I want to play but not spend a bunch of time farming. Sometimes I have more time to play then friends do so crafting fills that notch for me. I also take pride in wearing self made armor/weapons as much a possible.

So i'm hoping crafted items are as good as boss drops, seems only fair if I spent x hours grinding a craft I should be able to craft something better (or at least as good) then an item dropped of a dead mob of the same level.

I have always enjoyed crafting. I don't really like when there are dedicated crafting classes though... just leads to people having multiple alts/toons. Having them as subclasses is much more fun and you can create broader and deeper characters. Another thing I have enjoyed from other mmo's is when player-crafted items become necessary to do things in the world... not simply some armour/weapons. For example, in DAOC, you had to conspire with multiple crafter-types to make a host of pieces that another crafter could put together to make a siege weapon to use during keep raiding etc. That sort of option and depth is fantastic. I don't know enough about the game quite yet to say how something like that would translate to SGW. It's probably to late to implement major features like that anyway... .

I think crafting is a great way to indivualize the characters. It puts a personal touch on things.

Personally I really enjoy crafting. I don't want my character's main purpose in life to be crafting, but I do enjoy the act of making neat, and sometimes very rare items.

Personally, the more complicated crafting is, the better. Making basic things should be easy, obviously, but I think having to actually think about what you're doing when you make something is a plus. "Should I use the crystal capacitor from P3X932? It doesn't always seem to work the way I'd like, but it does have a better top end. Or should I be using the tried and true capacitor from the Jaffa staff weapon? Not as powerful, but certainly reliable." Likewise, if your game actually has situations where different attributes shine. If you're sniping, it doesn't really matter how long the first shot takes, as long as its BIG. But if you're defending against incoming foes, you could really go for a good rate of fire.

I'm not really a HUGE fan of WoWs plug it in, make it go, system. I used it, and I enjoyed it, but it left me wanting more.

As for WHY I enjoy crafting. I have to say its likely the obsessive compulsive in me, coupled with the frustration of not being a raider in a few raid heavy games. I want to have nice things too, so I make them. That, and after seeing something that was only worth 200G selling for 4000g the tenth time, I finally snapped. I don't usually craft to make money though. I'm much more likely to accept a small tip and make an item out of someone else's materials, than go crazy farming in order to make it and sell it for too much.

I'd like to see crafting in the game, if for no other reason than it adds more customization options to make your character unique.

Apparently we will have to do mini games when crafting like pressing Z and X and C keys in a pattern or something.
