Yeah maybe its just that i want more information about the game. But i think its more that i want the game to succeed past expectations. With the reader's choice awards it isn't even on the map, games that weren't going to be released for 2 - 3 years kept winning the awards and stargate was nowhere to be seen. So yeah i believe stargate worlds is going to beat out any MMO personally. Though its still off the radar when it comes to the average gamer that wasn't or isn't a fan of the shows. Its got to start pulling in the non-stargate fan gamers (which takes time) to be truly a huge hit. But, i do agree they will pick up the pace soon, come to that I'd be surprised if the game doesn't get their release date pushed back farther anyway. I don't remember the last MMO that a year before launch picked a release date and didn't end up pushing it back.

the only thing i would do differently is advertise on tv on more stations. Popular stations adverts at proper times would be good for there suspense build up

To be quite frank I never new that there was ever gunna be a Stargate Worlds game!
I new there was a stargate trading card game but I only stumbled on to the game after I found info on it while I was looking for info on Star Trek Online but maybe it’s a good thing that loads of people don’t know that much about it at this stage unlike Star Trek Online were every one and there mum new it was being made which put way to much pressure on Perpetual Entertainment which in the end they cancelled the game for the foreseeable future!
For the moment only the true stargate fans no its being made and as long as they do a big advertisement drive I cant see much problems later getting players!

Yeah, that was basically my point. Mostly just the big stargate fans know the games being made. Regular gamers, and MMO fans haven't really heard about its development.

To your point about perpetual entertainment. They have been a car wreck ever since they cancelled Gods and Heroes right at the point the game already had preorders in gaming shops. It was in the open beta, a month before release and then they just said they were cancelling development on the game to focus on star trek online. Thats going to destroy any companies reputation, and now they are getting sued because they filed for bankruptcy to get out of paying their debt, and ended up just restarting their company under the same name. They did it to themselves. Sad because I really thought they were going to be a counterbalance to SOE. Looks like more of the same.

I concur with your observation 100%. If it weren’t for the blurb on the Sifi network I would have never known the game was in development.
I consider myself to be a fairly avid gamer and not to be totally out of the loop, and get most my information from the sources you have mentioned. But information here has been scarce at best.
A search of “Stargate world interviews” does produce up a number of good interviews, but they are very tight-lipped interviews. While this may be a simple marketing stratagem, it seems to me that playing your cards so close to the vest runs a risk.
Is it that you have great toys and you want to save them as a surprise, or is it that your toys are not so great and you don’t want the neighborhood kids to know. I do give kudos for the TV advertising campaign, just as one picture is worth a thousand words; here a one ad is definitely worth a thousand players, to paraphrase.
To sum it up though, I think that it’s just that we are lucky enough to be in on the beginning of all this, and I’m hoping that soon enough, we’ll see more information coming out, and when they’re allowed to talk more, you’ll see a little more excitement from the folks that do the talking.

Very good points from all i say. i think with a game with a built in brand name like stargate has to go about there advertising differant then say. WoW(blizzard) since there a set company known for games those gamers just look at there sites and know that hmm there making a game called WoW where as somthing like this with a new company nobody knows about the best way to sell it is get us Stargate fans to spread the word plus its cheap haha and they feel we ahve done a great job cant remember what site but the trailer was viewed somthing like 100,000 times or somthing forget where that was posted though so no quote's on that one.

as for the airing of the trailer during atlantis i think that was a bad idea. most if not all "us" stargate fans already knew about it so airing during say lost or somthing would have alerted a totally differant audiance to it. and air it during atlantis just so we can see it to haha. Keep an eye out for E3 and the other big expos this year hopefully we get to see a game demo before then but i doubt it.

iv had a few friends i have made aware of the game each of them not really fans but have seen some episodes who are eager to try the game maybe not as much as we are but im sure i can get them to stop playing what ever game WoW,FFXI for awhile to atleast give it a shot, and i think CME is hoping that with everyone 1-2 fans they bring in a interested friend who enjoys games also. and the amount fans stargate has aquired over the last decade is a very large number so word of mouth reaches alot of ears.

the only sad thing about the trailer happened to me today being a long time fan i understood the ad. but i showed it to a friend today and this is how the convo went.

Me: ok heres the game im looking forward to and you gonna play with me.
Him: ooh looks good
Me: explained the battle system sorta
Him: HAHA "wait no we dont"
Me: hehe
Him: wait isnt the show about humans?
Me: ummmm there wearing suits. explained what a goa'uld and jafa was. (he one of them watch it a couple times guys)
Him: hmm ok!
Him: does look cool though kinda vague for us who dont know much about the stargate series or game itself.

im sure they will release more in the future but somthing like that is kinda hard to explain in a short commercial spot. guess ill have to educate him and take him my dvds

sorry for being long winded

I can’t help but wonder how much of their information release is influenced by expectations.
What I mean is that unlike other games where you have no knowledge of how the world works short of what the developers have released thru the media over a period of weeks and months. Here you have a world where the player will constantly compare its operation to a series that they may have literally grown up with, and because of these expectations may even resent any change to it’s operation you might implement. If you conform too closely to the series or the movie you run the risk of a potentially a very short boredom cycle, and if you stray to from the original template your again run the risk of rejection because of expectations.
They are creating a world within a world it would seem, a new one that you cannot really give an accurate picture of because of previous experience, and that might be unfairly judged before hand because of “expectations”.

Amen!
And this will vary from ur own experience, if ur a MMO player that havent seen the series, a SG freak that can speak in the goa'uld language, or a SG freak that also is a big MMO player.

For my part, im a SG freak and a MMO player, wut im expecting is a HUGE world, a concept based on the series, but i wouldnt want to play a known character (as O'neil for example), i want something seperated from the series, where i can build my own character the way i want in an all new world, with new creatures, allies and random civilisations.

One thing tho, i think we extrapolate way too much on the game, they need to feed us some valuable strong infos, cauz every1 is building his on view on SGW, and that might disapoint some in a near (or not) future.

Well I'm thinking they are rolling out marketing correctly. Look at the gaming sites, lots of interviews and discussion there. THat's the initial free tactic in getting out info - do interviews, it's free advertising.

Second, there is a huge established fan base. Hence running the teaser during Atlantis. So it looks like theri ploy is to go directly to the fanbase, many of which will play the game.

I think they will start the marketing as soon as the open beta is done. CME seems like one of those private companies that won't be forced to launch a game before it's done. That's the good thing about having investors rather than needing to worry about public sector stock holders. So I'm thinking as soon as it's just about good to go is when the major advertising boost will come.

Anyway, my $0.02.

Hail your $0.02 Enjoyed your 2 cents..
