More Info on BOTH Stargate Movies 4 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 4
Gateworld now has some official info up about the 2 films due to replace season 11, there are some spoilers so do not read if you don't want to know

"Everything is set to start filming April 15, 2007 for the first of two new Stargate SG-1 movies, according to Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson". In an interview with IGN.com, Shanks gave up some details on the plots of the movies.

Watch out for spoilers in the story below!

According to Shanks, the cast is all signed up for both movies. Executive producer Robert C. Cooper will both write and direct the first movie. The storyline "has to do with wrapping up the Ori storyline, which is the storyline that has taken prominence for the last two years of the show," Shanks said. "I don't know if [Cooper] is going to wrap it up completely or bring it to some conclusion for the sake of the fans and the franchise, to bring that epic struggle to a close."

The second movie starts shooting June 1. Executive producer Brad Wright will write the second film, with Martin Wood directing. That story is a time travel story taking SG-1 to the past. "[It] has something to do with our main mustache twiddling villain Baal [Cliff Simon] doing something in the past," Shanks said. "He basically finds a way to lift the Stargate from Earth so the Stargate Program never happens, and I imagine the characters will have to go through some process to reset the clock and fix everything."

Shanks also discussed the second half of Season Ten, saying that Daniel has his hands full with an unexpected detour.

"Something happens to Daniel that sends him on a strange journey," he said. "So that was kind of fun to play. You get to see the darker side of Daniel and play with that portion of the latter half of the season ... he comes back and is kind of a villain."

Shanks confirmed that fellow cast member Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter" will cross over to Season Four of Stargate Atlantis. Whether Shanks' character will also crossover is undetermined.

"I haven't been spoken to about anything to do with Atlantis, so I guess Daniel will have to wait."

Read the full interview with Michael Shanks now at IGN.com! Shanks also discusses the 2007 "Women of Sci Fi" calendar project. Season Ten returns to SCI FI Channel in the U.S. beginning in April for the final ten episodes of Stargate SG-1

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stargate owner Metro Goldwyn Mayer is planning an on-going Stargate SG-1 movie franchise, a production source tells GateWorld. MGM and the show's Vancouver-based producers are no longer pursuing an eleventh season for the hit television series, which was cancelled by U.S. broadcaster SCI FI Channel in August.

The cast of Stargate SG-1 has now signed on for the first film, though an exact list of confirmed actors is not yet available. The film begins shooting April 15 in Vancouver, followed by a June 1 start date for the second movie, according to a new IGN interview with actor Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson".

Though perhaps a disappointment to fans rallying for an eleventh season at SaveStargateSG1.com, the news does offer a silver lining: should DVD sales justify the plans to make an on-going series of movies, the adventures of SG-1 will continue.

The studio was previously exploring its options for an alternate way to finance and distribute Season Eleven in the U.S. (story), calling Stargate its most important franchise second only to James Bond.

The producers announced in October that two SG-1 movies, likely direct-to-DVD, had been greenlit (story). The first will serve as the climax of the Ori story line, according to executive producer Brad Wright. It will be written by executive producer Robert C. Cooper.

The second film will be written by Wright, and is said to deal with time travel.

The studio is targetting a fall 2007 release for both films -- just a few months after Stargate SG-1 ends its historic, 10-year run on cable television. They hope for at least one new SG-1 movie each year thereafter, a source tells GateWorld.

"There's a sense of an era for us ending," Wright told TV Guide in October, "but at the same time, we're all positive because of the prospect of continuing forward with movies and the introduction next year of Stargate Worlds, a massive multiplayer online game."

Stargate SG-1 takes its final television bow with 10 all-new episodes starting in April on SCI FI Channel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is potential for the series to continue after in further films, hoping for yearly releases if they go ahead, the entire SG1 cast have been signed. This looks good and I can't wait

Thanks for posting I only read a bit due to spoiler alert. But i did see what Shanks said about the first movie.

Altough I commend the writers and for attempting to bring the Ori struggle to a close for our sake, but the ori conflict deserves atleast five or six more seasons seasons lol. Call me greedy but the battle against the Goa'uld was just getting insane towards seasons five and six and I can't imagine what the writers could do with the ori story in that amount of time... But I can dream about it.

I mean, come on. Come, on. Come on. lol

I know the movie is going to be great but they know that we wanted SG1 to last forever and that we all seen the ori story as the begining of a new future for the franchise. I mean I like Atlantis and I watch it just as religiously as I do SG1 but SG1 was the flagship series and even though this season of atlantis has been (in my opinion) the best Stargate Season yet (including sg1), Atlantis doesn't fill the void.

Plus I REEEAALY miss Vala

Okay i went alittle off topic but the point is that altough I'd rather have five more seasons of SG1 I'm looking forward to both movies and I know they will be more then I could ever expect.

Yeah these movies will be cool to watch. You can watch the first one online now, its not completed yet. But the movie has been leaked before to was finished.

P.S. Cam and vala will be in another series I'm guessing. They both came farscape, like keller and the Ori leader came from fireflies. They all seem to swap and change SCI-FI shows IMHO.

This is relatively old news, the first film being realised in march. Can't wait for it, although it's a shame they had to end the ori thing in so little time.
