Community Rules

Moderation - The forums are moderated by Stargate Worlds Game admins, ProtoPC Hosting and selected Community members.

Posts - Posts must be constructive and on topic. Moderators reserve the right to remove any topics deemed inappropriate or disruptive to the community. Do NOT use all caps in your titles.

Etiquette - Moderators are not instructed to censor opinions or ideas but will take action against posts and/or topics that cause unrest beyond civil and polite disagreements. Members may not post personal attacks towards administrators or community members.

Issues - If you have an issue concerning community policies, moderators or team, please private message. All moderators and administrators are highlighted in the active members list.

The Rules
• Profanity and discriminatory remarks are not tolerated.
• Inflammatory remarks, intended to hurt or offend a member and/or moderator, are not tolerated.
• Spamming, public or private, will result in a user ban.
• Pornography, warez and illegal content may not be linked from this community.
• Signatures must be limited to two lines. Failing to comply with these guidelines will result in the removal of the signature.
• Postings must be placed in the appropriate forum channel and contain a descriptive subject line. Postings placed in inappropriate forum channels will be considered off-topic and either moved or deleted. Nondescriptive titles and descriptions will be renamed.
• Linked and locked topics are pruned regularly. If you have a question about where a topic resides, please PM a Moderator before starting a new topic asking where it went or posting a duplicate thread of the original topic. Moderators are happy to provide a link to thread locations as well as explain the reasoning behind why a thread is locked and/or removed.

• Abusive behavior of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in the ban of the involved accounts. If you have experienced abusive behavior from a community member, please inform a Forum Moderator.
• If you feel a forum moderator is abusing forum rules or behaving unethically, please contact Admin via PM.

Searching For Answers
Before posting a problem you are experiencing, please search the forums for related postings which may help you further.

User Profiles
Each community member has a profile which can be accessed via the Members main menu in the header. It is appreciated if all information can be entered truthfully, to be able to present ones self to the community in a better manner.

Signatures and Usernames
Profiles, including signatures, with innappropriate content or any that are too large may be modified without prior notification. Forum image or text sigs should not be larger than 100 pixels or about an inch high and not break the forum width. The main focus of the post should be the content, not the sig.

We are looking for forum moderators. Site members with notable SGWGame.com forum activity, Stargate or MMO experience, and respect for self and others may PM the Admin with their Moderater request.

Moderator Guidelines

Generally, moderators have a threefold responsibility: to foster lively discussion, to ensure that members are following the community rules, and to assist new members. A good moderator ensures that his/her forum is inviting, active, and an asset to the community as a whole.

Moderators have extended capability to edit, move, delete, or prune posts.

Moderator Etiquette
The moderators should always be familiar with the specific rules and regulations of their board, but these are some general guidelines for good moderation.

What do I say on the board?
Begin by greeting new members as they post questions. Participate in the conversations that are taking place on the board, and, if necessary, prepare a topic to keep conversation flowing smoothly. Reach out to your audience, gamers, co-workers, etc. if necessary to help fuel the discussion.

When to edit a message
· Contains profanity
· Contains off-topic content
· Violates the board rules in some other way (contains advertising, etc.)

Editing is always visible to the community; whenever a message is edited, the date/time/edit author are shown within the message (although this can be disabled by the Administrator in UBB™ 6 software).

In general, it is preferable to edit a message rather than delete it entirely.

When to delete a topic or message
· Unacceptable behavior (as determined by the tone of the community; e.g., profanity)
· Completely off-topic discussion
· No part of the topic/message is salvageable by editing
· Illegal/defamatory statements

Basically, whenever there is no value to the community that demands leaving the topic/message in place. It is good practice to
e-mail the topic initiator to explain why it was deleted, unless the reason is totally obvious.

When to move a topic
· Off-topic discussion

When you move a topic, you have the choice to either leave a copy of the thread in the original forum, or completely move it to the new forum location. It is usually a good idea to leave a copy pointing to the new location so those returning can find it.

When to ban a member
· Repeated violation of the stated board rules or forum rules
· Offensive behavior (e.g., posting offensive material, harassing other members)
· Attempts at hacking or destroying the forum
· Repeated attempts to circumvent moderation or banning

Banning a member means that he/she can no longer post messages on your board (it is not limited to a specific forum). Normally, unruly members are given a warning prior to actually being banned, since that is a fairly serious step. The level of discipline should correspond to the seriousness of the offense. (And remember…it is always reversible.)

When to close a topic
· Discussion is heading off-topic, but does not merit deletion
· The initial message and replies contain valuable information, but further discussion is not desired
· The thread is becoming too lengthy

SGW Guilds

Build a Guild

A Guild is just an organized group of gamers with a common theme or mission. Guilds should have a Banner Logo (128px) and can be joined three ways...Open (Anyone), Approval (Anyone can apply), Invite (Private Invitation). The benefits to joining or creating your own Guild is proven mmo strategies and better friendships. An organized team with assigned roles is a force to be reckoned with. Read through the different Guild mission statements and if none appeal to your taste create your own Guild. Each Guild group can create bulletins and group emails that will help keep you in sync. Plus you may add your Guild comrades to your profile Connections for a simple buddy list.

Notes: Take a second to read the Guild Policies posted here. Have fun!
